Andrew Dwyer 33, of Waterbury, was arrested by Fairfield Police on Monday, July 29, and turned over to the Monroe Police Department for the alleged attempted theft that took place on April 16, 2015, said Lt. Stephen Corrone.
Police became aware of the crime when they were called to the area of Maple Drive and Mill Street for the report of a stolen motorcycle.
The person reporting the crime told police two men allegedly attempted to steal a Harley Davidson motorcycle from a residence in the area, said Corrone.
Officers discovered the motorcycle abandoned in the middle of Maple Drive. The victim and witnesses explained that they saw two men attempting to steal the motorcycle, which had been stored in the garage for the winter.
The forks of the motorcycle had been locked to prevent theft, but the suspects removed the lock, damaging the motorcycle in the process, Corrone said.
The witness approached the suspects and both men fled into the wooded area.
One of the suspects was identified by a witness and was arrested by warrant at a later date. That case has since been processed through the court system, Corrone added.
The second suspect, Dwyer, successfully fled the scene.
Dwyer was charged with criminal attempt larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal mischief, and criminal trespass.
He was released after posting $10,000 bond. Dwyer is scheduled to appear in court on August 8.
